“But I let you pay for dinner,” she dared to argue.
If only she knew my monthly entertainment allowance could easily equal her annual salary, I thought to myself.
“Trust me, Lena; you do not want to compete with me on evening the score. It will go easier on you if you cooperate.”
She stepped aside, pouting a little; I didn’t care.
The guy in the window looked at my AmEx card curiously, then peered at us with renewed interest; I ignored him and prompted him to process the payment.
We bought drinks and popcorn then entered the movie theater, choosing seats in the center. With my own home theater at the penthouse, I rarely went out to watch movies and had last entered a commercial theater about two years before, to attend a premier of a mega blockbuster we’d helped finance. It was refreshing to be acting normal and watching a movie like I’d done often in my younger years. The theater was less than half full, but a group of noisy guys still managed to choose seats that were close to us, then proceeded to get rowdy, performing all the way through the movie. A respectable older African American lady tried to tell them to keep it down but they just carried on, disrupting the show for everyone. I remained calm and patient; I was in unfamiliar territory and I was there escorting Lena; it did not seem like it would end well if I tried to intervene in any way.
When the movie ended, we remained seated until almost everyone had vacated the theater, then I put my arm protectively around Lena and led her to the exit. I paid no attention to the curious stares from a few people.
When we got to the exit, the rowdy group of three guys was still rudely insulting the woman from the movie who’d told them to keep it down. She was looking scared and intimidated, clutching her bag tightly to her and making her way towards the parking area. I could tell Lena was concerned about her too. I looked across the parking area and spotted the Tahoe parked quite a walk away. Decision made; I’d help this lady into her car while Lena made her way to the safety of the Tahoe.
“Lena, go wait in the car,” I instructed her, keeping an eye on the rowdy group.
“What do you want to do?” she asked, looking worried.
I didn’t want her to worry; I knew I could handle myself.
“Let me just help this lady get to her car, I’ll be right back. Just go to the car,” I said firmly, then headed towards the lady.
“Ma’am,” I said offering her my arm, “I’ll escort you to your car to make sure you are safe.”
“Thank-you,” she said, her voice sounding relieved. The guys burst out laughing, asking her mockingly if I was her guardian angel and how they could fuck up her angel. Clearly they were high on something, so I paid no attention to them and we got to the lady’s car safely. I waited patiently as she fumbled in her bag for the key. Just as she opened the door, I noticed Lena approaching us. I couldn’t hide my irritation upon seeing that she hadn’t listened to my instructions to go to the Tahoe.
“Lena,” I said tersely. “Go back to the car please.” I was not to be argued with. There was genuine danger involved and I couldn’t watch my back if I was distracted with protecting her. The group was watching us and evidently weighing their options.
Lena looked at the group, then at me and upon seeing my scowl she headed to the Tahoe while I waited for the lady to settle in and start her car. Just as her car drove off, I noticed one of the guys running up to Lena, accosting her. I walked in a brisk stride to catch up. Just as I got to them, I heard the loser say, “Wanna fuck?” to her.
I quickly stepped in between them.
“No she doesn’t. Now step off!” I spat, seething with rage. I had to calm myself; I needed Lena safe and secure before things went completely out of control. I grabbed her hand and headed for the Tahoe, wondering why the hell Jackson wasn’t reading the situation so I could secure Lena. I should have called him, I thought a little too late.
I heard the other two guys running to join us and it was then that I knew, it was not going to end well. The loser now had his back-up with him and thought he might try to escalate things a little.
“Hey, black princess,” he shouted to Lena. “You don’t need this white man to pay yo’ bills. I got money; here’s two dollars.” His friends laughed at his joke and high fives were exchanged around the group. I sensed Lena’s humiliation at their nasty comments; it was then that I knew I would fuck them up. They added fuel to the fire.
“Hey yo! White boy!” he shouted, now directing his insults at me. “She don’t want you for yo’ small dick, bruh. She only want yo’ money, that’s what’s up!”
I smiled to myself internally; this night was going to end badly for them. I felt Lena’s steps faltering but I gripped her firmly and dragged her on, away from the danger.
“Keep walking, Lena,” I urged. “I want you safe and secure, so keep moving.”
The idiot escalated things further by running up and grabbing Lena’s free hand walking beside her while looking at me with that “I’ve got your girl, what are you going to do about it’ look. Lena tried to pull away but he held her firmly.
Now he had assaulted my date; that was unforgivable. I stopped and give him a rough shove, sending him stumbling back for several paces before he fell down on his back on the tarmac.
His friends who’d been hollering and hooping, cursed and ran to his side and helped him stand. Finally, Jackson read the situation and started the Tahoe and drove towards us at high speed, stopping the passenger back door right in front of Lena. I quickly opened the door and helped Lena in then locked and shut it; it was show time. Jackson ran to meet me at the front of the car. I would deal with his delayed response later.
“It’s my show,” I told Jackson. “I get two, you get one.”
He nodded in agreement. He knew that I could handle myself; he himself had trained with Mason on and off since working for me and had seen some of my more brutal training sessions. We walked towards the 3 guys cussing and hollering their threats several paces from us; they had stood a little distance off when the car came screeching, waiting to see who was coming out, probably since the car had tinted windows.
Faintly, I heard Lena shouting for us to leave but I ignored her; not after the way they disrespected her. What sort of man would I be if I let them get away with touching her and insulting her? Besides, my boyish side wanted to impress her since nothing else did. This fight was necessary and I intended to say something to instigate it.
We walked up to the group and faced them squarely.
“What the fuck is your problem?” I asked the main loser sizing him up.
“You’re my problem, white boy,” he finished with emphasis, looking at me with disgust.
“Do you wanna die, white boy?” shouted his friend beside him, moving menacingly.
“The problem is you should stay away from our women ‘cause you don’t know what to do with that ass,” added the third guy, punching his fist into his hand.
I snorted to irritate them. “I know exactly what to do with that ass and will be doing it in my bed tonight.”
“Fuck you man, she’s only with you for money anyways,” said the first thug.
“I’d be glad to give her every fucking cent,” I replied with a menacing smile, getting up close to him. “So now before I fuck you up, you are going to kneel before me and apologize.”
I had braced for it knowing it was coming, but it was still a surprise when he swung his clenched fist aiming directly for my jaw to sucker punch me. Bitch moves like that were Mason 101 for me; I leaned back deftly, swiping his fist down with my left hand then smashed his trash talking mouth with my right fist. He staggered back several paces and fell to the ground, blood spurting from his mouth. I knew I’d loosened several of his teeth because my hand was bruised badly and hurting.
I had no time to think about it because the second guy ran towards me to take me down and I expertly side-stepped out of the way of his charge and greeted his advance with a swift, rib-cracking kick to the chest. He
fell hard backwards hitting his head on the tarmac and was out cold for a few seconds. The third guy came for me and as I readied myself for him, Jackson clothes-lined him and punched him hard on the face, breaking his nose. Damn it; I should have called dibs on all three, I thought, disappointed momentarily while an adrenaline boost circulated in me.
The first guy got up, holding his swollen mouth screaming unintelligible obscenities at us and Jackson reached inside his jacket in response, making the guy retreat fast. The guy who was out cold came-to suddenly and rose together with the third guy. All three were nursing their injuries while shouting abusive threats, backing away tactically. Mission accomplished, I turned around and walked back to the car, jumping into the front passenger seat. I gave them one last “fuck you” glare as Jackson hopped in, started the car and drove off.
Chapter Eighteen
I turned back to check on Lena, squeezing her knee. I was still angry that they tried to humiliate her and I knew she was hurt by that.
“Are you alright?” I asked her soothingly.
She opened her purse to get a tissue.
“I’m okay,” she sniffed, her voice sounding tremulous. “Jonathan, are you okay? Are you or Jackson hurt?”
Shit, I thought. Maybe I went too far with the show.
“Jackson, pull over,” I commanded.
He slowed the car to a stop then I got out and jumped into the back beside Lena, then we continued moving.
“Don’t worry, we are both fine,” I reassured her, taking her hand.
I watched her battling to remain calm but saw the tears she was fighting to hold back sliding down her cheeks. Seeing her so upset tugged at my heart strings.
“Hey, Lena, please don’t cry,” I soothed, pulling her into my lap. “I’m so sorry you went through that.”
“Why didn’t we just go?” she snapped through her tears.
What did she take me for? Why would I run away like a sewer rat from defending her?
“I would never let them escape after talking shit to you, Lena,” I answered firmly.
I held her close to me, gently stroking her neck and rubbing her back as gasps wracked her body.
“I’m sorry Jonathan; I invited you here,” she choked, between tears.
She was blaming herself for what happened? No, those loser guys were at fault and they got their just reward.
“It’s not your fault, Lena. They started it and we simply finished it,” I said, kissing her temple and neck while holding her to me.
Eventually I sensed her calming as she sniffed the last of her tears.
When we arrived at her apartment, Jackson parked the car, then stepped out and shut the door so we could be alone.
“Hey,” I began, shifting her in my lap so I could see her more clearly. “Feel better?”
“I must look like shit,” she said, with wistful amusement in her voice.
“You look perfect, always beautiful,” I assured, kissing her gently.
After what’d happened, I couldn’t just leave her at her apartment by herself. I was taking her home with me to care for her in case she needed me.
“Grab your stuff for the night and tomorrow; let’s go to the Penthouse for the night.”
She hesitated then looked at her watch; I knew she was going to decline but I wouldn’t let her. Once I leave her here, knowing Lena, I probably wouldn’t hear from her again the rest of the weekend.
“It’s okay, Jonathan,” she said shaking her head. “I have an early day tomorrow, I’m going to church with my mom; so I just need to get some sleep.”
She wants to sleep? Sure, I could do that; right?
“I promise, I’ll let you sleep tonight,” I said, knowing full well how difficult that was going to be.
She looked at me with obvious disbelief.
“I promise!” I insisted, smiling and holding my hands up in mock surrender.
“Okay, let me get my stuff,” she sighed, opening the car door.
“Bring your car keys,” I called after her, “we’ll take your car and Jackson will take this one.”
When she’d gone upstairs, Jackson came back towards the Tahoe.
“Hey,” I said as he approached. “You took too long to come to the party,” I said accusingly.
“You were handling it, sir,” he replied with a sheepish look.
“You good?” I asked him, giving him a once over.
“Yes, sir. And how is your hand sir?” he asked with concern in his voice.
“Couldn’t be better,” I joked, flexing it carefully.
“Sir, just so you know, I have the dash-cam footage of the altercation.”
“So we have it all on tape?”
“Yes, sir. I will look at it and save a copy. Should there be any trouble with the authorities or a lawsuit, I’m certain it will show that they attacked first.”
“Good thinking, Jackson,” I nodded impressed with his preparedness.
A moment later, Lena came towards us dressed casually in sweats, holding her duffel bag and purse. She unlocked her car and put her bags inside, while Jackson started the Tahoe and waited.
“I’ll drive,” I offered, taking her car keys from her then opening the passenger door for her.
I started her car and eased into the street with Jackson tailing us closely.
I looked around her car, noting the worn interior and the archaic dashboard with absolutely nothing of value; no LCD screen, parking assist features or anything. Her car radio was positively ancient.
“How old is this car?” I asked trying to hide my distaste.
“I don’t know; maybe 15 years old?”
I snorted involuntarily. I didn’t know how she justified owning the salvage.
“This is the first car I ever bought with my own money,” she said, clearly trying to convince me of its virtue.
I couldn’t pretend.
“It’s a piece of junk, Lena. On the outside it’s well maintained but seriously, this thing needs to be compacted.”
“I didn’t want to go into debt getting a new car; I’m in Finance, remember? So I don’t do long term debt for movable assets,” she argued. “I have a car savings fund for my dream car.”
“Really? What do you have your eye on?”
“Maybe a cute, little, white Mercedes,” she said longingly with a laugh. “But only after I’ve bought a property or two so it will be a few years yet.”
Little white Mercedes, huh? Maybe I could impress Miss Lena Williams after all.
I saw her watching me and I smirked deliberately, shaking my head.
“Jonathan, you can’t relate, can you?”
Actually, no, I couldn’t. If I wanted something, I just bought it. Of course being in Finance myself I was aware of my spending habits and stayed within the budget limits set by my personal accountant. But those limits were quite vast. I rarely shopped anyway; working was my thing. I had to remind myself that what I had access to, was very different from most people. I had limited access to my money until I graduated from college; since then my primary focus had been to make more. I dared not answer her.
After we parked we went up my private elevator and straight upstairs to my suite. I placed her bag on the luggage rack in my dressing room then removed my shoes and jacket, emptying my pockets. It was almost midnight, it’d been a long evening and I wanted to make sure Lena was settled after what’d happened. I went towards her, holding out my arms.
“Come here,” I said soothingly, pulling her to me and hugging her close to my chest. I held her like that for a while and felt her relief as she held on to me. Perhaps at last I had found something I could provide for Lena; comfort. She wanted to sleep so I pulled away and kissed her gently.
“Let’s get you into bed,” I suggested. “Do you want a T-shirt?”
“No, I brought something to wear,” she answered going to her bag then to the bathroom.
I pulled off my jeans and T-shirt. I normally slept naked but because Lena said she wanted t
o sleep, I rummaged through my closet and found my black boxers.
I switched on my phone, noting several messages from Dixon and Pike; I’d attend to them tomorrow. I pulled back the covers then connected my cell phone to the charger on my nightstand.
Just then, Lena came out of the bathroom, wearing some frilly tiny thing that exposed massive amounts of cleavage with nipples clearly visible. The bottom curves of her ample butt cheeks were also on erotic display. I gaped at her, my dick hardening more by the second. I shook my head at her audacity to talk about sleep then dress like that. She might as well place a mountain lion in a slaughter house then expect him not to eat.
“Why would you wear that and expect me to let you sleep?” I asked perplexed, going towards her to divest her of that tiny outfit.
“Jonathan! You promised,” she complained, pouting.
I held up my hands in surrender and got into bed then opened the covers for her beside me. As soon as she slipped inside, I slid over to her and pulled her to my chest while she hooked one leg over mine.
She brushed her thigh by my stiff cock then quickly moved her leg away, making me smile.
“Sweet dreams, Lena.” I said kissing her temple.
“Jonathan?” she said quietly, her pretty brown fingers gently resting on my chest.
“Mmm?”
“Where are my panties?”
“Which panties?”
“The ones from our first encounter in the conference room?”
I paused for a long moment, knowing exactly where they were but hoping she wouldn’t ask for them back.
“Somewhere safe.”
She smiled.
“Good night.”
“Night.”
Chapter Nineteen
My eyes fluttered open quite early the next morning. I glanced at the clock; it was only 5.30am. I felt a stirring beside me and heard the cutest moan coming from Lena who was still fast asleep beside me. It’d been a long time since I woke up with a woman in my bed all night and it felt perfect.
